CALOOSA WINNIES

January 2009 Outing

January 8 – 11, 2009 the Caloosa Winnies kicked off the new year at Tropical Palms RV Resort in Kissimmee, Florida with 24 coach members attending. Sharon and Mohammed Mirzai were welcomed as guests, invited by Corinne & Pete Wightman. Happy Hour was the first event at 4:00pm on Thursday, followed by a dinner of homemade Vegetable Beef Soup and other dishes prepared by members. An Ice Cream Social followed with lots of choices for making sundaes! The evening activity was “Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader” game, with Jerry Miller presiding as “Jeff Foxworthy”, and Charlie Zucker as the Smart 5th Grader! Our winners who were the smart ones were Doris Palmer, Jim O’Neill and Paula Geng! We had lots of laughs and even learned a few new things!

Friday morning our cooks Ed Tyndall & Charlie Zucker were busy making pancakes, sausage and fruit toppings for the group. At 10:00am we were off to Pirates Cove Minature Golf Course for a Golf Scramble! Dave Nobert was the Marshall for the event, the weather was sunny and the course was very picturesque! Everyone had a great time and our winners were presented with trophies later that evening.

The ladies and a few of the men gathered in the clubhouse after lunch to work on our rally craft project. We made 100 pins with beads that resemble the American flag to be put in the goody bags, and they looked GREAT! THANKS to Kathryn Griffin for heading the project!

Happy Hour commenced at 4:00pm, then we left for Golden Corral Restaurant to enjoy a buffet dinner. Back at the clubhouse awards were presented to the winners of the golf tournament. The team of Sharon Mirzai & Jack MacGregor were presented trophies for best team score. Mohammed Mirzai won the trophy for best individaul score. 18 golfers had a hole in one and each person was presented with a certificate rewarding their achievement! The evening event was an Ugly Ornament Contest. Each member was asked to bring an ornament wrapped and Gail Darner passed out numbers and we began the drawing. There was lots of passing the “treasures” around and we had more laughs and surprises! It was voted by the group that Gary Darner had brought the best Ugly Ornament!

Saturday morning was a Potluck Breakfast with so much good food it was a sight to see! At 10:00am President Jerry Miller called the business meeting to order. Jerry announced that Sharon and Mohammed Mirzai joined as members, with a rousing applause from the group!

Bug Geng performed our Installation of Officers for 2009, Jerry Miller, President, Charlie & Ellen Zucker, Vice Presidents, and Jane O’Neill, Treasurer. Our new Secretary Sally Rayburn, was not able to attend and will be installed in February. There was discussion concerning the March Rally with our new duties being Registration and Goody Bag assembly. Our committees are ready for the tasks that include Cathy & Al Goebel handling the 2 main tasks, Ellen Zucker & Sally Rayburn will handle the Pet Parade, Jane O’Neill and Lois Hogan will be in charge of door prize duties. THANKS to all our members for volunteering to do what ever needs to be done during rally week!

Saturday afternoon was free time, with Happy Hour beginning at 4:00pm. Roast Beef Barbecue was the main dish for dinner with delicious side dishes provided by members! The rest of the evening was free time with many people going to nearby Old Town which has lots of stores, entertainment and the vintage car show.

Sunday morning a breakfast of donuts, bagels, rolls and fruit was enjoyed by everyone as we talked about the fun weekend and prepared to go our separate ways. THANKS to everyone for the fun memories!
