Caloosa Winnies

February 2011 Outing

Pictures by Nancy Miller

February 3 – 6, 2011 the Caloosa Winnies celebrated a pre-Mardi Gras theme at Lazy Days RV Park in Seffner, Florida. 30 coaches were in attendance and the weekend kicked off with Happy Hour in Thursday at 4:00pm. This was also our Friendship Rally and we welcomed some visitors for the weekend. Due to some scheduling conflicts in the Rec Hall our schedule was changed and we all went out to dinner at Brandon Ale House. After dinner some of the members returned to the Rec Hall and enjoyed the band that was playing in the hall while playing cards and games.

Friday morning was our traditional Pancake Breakfast  and our cooks showed off their talents, even with a few electrical problems, breakfast was served on time and enjoyed by all! After lunch the dancers appeared to practice new dances for our March Rally. We really had a great time and lots of laughs! And we figured out it IS good exercise!

4:00pm Happy Hour was on tap, followed with a Turkey Dinner prepared by the hosts, Frank & Diane Cipolla, Doris & Bill Palmer, Chris & Bob Ross. Dishes were also prepared by the members and we had a joyous feast!

About 7:00pm we kicked off our 2nd Annual Mask Parade! The members had some pretty elaborate costumes and masks and paraded around the room for the contest judging. Dick & Mikki Dodge, Dan & Linda Tuzzolo were trying to pick winners from a really tough field of players! The winners were chosen, Bob Coy, Gene & Lois Hogan, Gary & Gail Darner were the winners! THANKS to everyone who participated – we really DID have fun! The rest of the evening we all played cards and games.

Saturday morning was our Potluck Breakfast – again – great food provided by the members! The business meeting was held at 10:00am led by Charlie & Ellen Zucker, our Presidents. The details of our upcoming March Rally were discussed including our chapter duty of Parking. Charlie has done an outstanding job of streamlining the job and has the volunteers involved in the process. Diane & Frank Cipolla gave a presentation about Joshua House, a home for abused and abandoned children.

The  members then voted to make that our charity for the upcoming Pound Auction later that day. After the meeting the rest of the day was spent viewing new coaches at Lazy Days, and shopping at Camping World.

At 4:00pm Happy Hour commenced followed by dinner of Sweet & Sour Meatballs prepared by the hosts. Side dishes were again provided by members – we have the best cooks in this chapter!

At 7:00pm it was center stage for our annual Pound Auction. This event we have each year with all proceeds given to a charity. This time the charity would be Joshua House. With that in mind, the members and guests were WELL entertained and GENEROUS with their bids! Mike Sofarelli entered the room dressed in a white tux and mask as “Guido” from Las Vegas, and had the room in hysterics before the auction even started! His masked marauders, Charlie Zucker & Ed Tyndall – who both dressed the part – all three began the antics of auctioning packages of unknown content! The laughter and jokes were just wonderful to watch, and the great thing was we raised $1605 to present to the charity! The generosity of this group was overwhelming and so appreciated by Diane & Frank who are close to this charity. They also matched the amount themselves – the total amount given to Joshua House was $3210, which they will use to help the children. It was such a fun event and we are all still laughing at the antics of the 3 Mardi Gras Marauders!

Sunday morning was our traditional breakfast of donuts, bagels, rolls & fruit before we said our goodbyes. The anticipation of our next meeting – our annual Rally – was on our minds as we parted.

If you are traveling in our area, consider yourselves invited to any of our camping weekends. Our schedule is on the website:www.winniegators.org/caloosawinnies. Also our schedule is in the WIT magazine. We’re always happy to have guests!
