Caloosa Winnies

April 2009 Outing

April 2 – 5, 2009 the Caloosa Winnies celebrated Easter at Sun N’ Fun RV Resort at Sarasota, FL with 28 coaches registered for the weekend fun! Co-Hosts were Gary & Gail Darner, Ed & Sue Hall, Pete & Corinne Wightman. Guests joining us for the weekend were Frank & Shirley Griffith. Happy Hour commenced at 4:00pm followed by a Sweet & Sour Meatball dinner along with GREAT dishes provided by members! An Ice Cream Social followed dinner, and an game of guessing movie titles was played by the group. Cards and games were on tap for the rest of the evening.

Friday morning was our pancake breakfast with the hosts cooking and serving great pancakes! We left for a tour of nearby Crowley Museum and Nature Center and learned the history of that area back when it was first inhabited in the 1800’s. Happy Hour found us gathered again at the Rec Hall, then off to dinner at Troyers Dutch Heritage Restaurant.

The business meeting was held at 7:00pm, followed by card games for the rest of the evening.

Saturday morning was a delicious Potluck Breakfast, followed by an Easter Egg Hunt! Armed with bags the members scouted the area for their “prized eggs” and we gathered back at the Rec Hall to check out the loot! Some of the eggs had “special” prize awards and those were given to the “hunters”. Mel Wroten was doing a demonstration on cooking ribs and chicken in an ice chest and had us all interested in the results! The rest of the afternoon was free time and some enjoyed the pool and shopping. Happy Hour was at 4:00pm followed by a delicious Ham Dinner complete with wonderful dishes prepared by all the cooks.

Our project for the evening was packing boxes to send to a military base in Iraq where wounded soldiers are taken for care. The members generously donated enough items to fill 12 boxes and we had a great time doing the project. THANKS to everyone for their help and donations! We received many letters and emails thanking our group for the boxes. The soldiers and care givers were so appreciative to know we are thinking of them.

Sunday morning was our traditional breakfast of coffee, juice, donuts, bagels & fruit before we said our goodbyes. We are so fortunate to have such a wonderful group of members and we look forward to our next meeting in May!
